Trace and cut out the pieces from felt according to the patterns provided.
Take the Styrofoam ball and glue on the 2” grey circle. Take 8 of the grey feathers and glue around the edge of the circle, with the points facing in. this is the bottom of the bird.
NOTE: When gluing the felt “feathers” on the bird, it will look like a fabric pinecone ornament; refer to the photo to see how the pieces overlap by rows. You may need to cut more feathers, depending on how it is glued onto the Styrofoam ball.
Choose the side you want for the front of the bird. With the rounded end on top, glue 2 more grey feathers in either side of a bottom feather, about 1/2” up. Next row up, line up 3 grey feathers, 1/2” up, overlapping the previous row and glue.
Take 2 grey feathers, go up 1/2” and glue on either side of the middle feather on the previous row. Take 1 last grey feather and glue between the 2 of the previous row. The grey feathers will look somewhat like an oval, forming the bird’s chest.
Beginning from the bottom row of grey feathers, glue a row of blue feathers around the body, stopping where the grey chest is. Continue go 1/2” up per row and glue the blue feathers between the feathers on the previous row, making sure to overlap slightly. Keep going until you reach the top of the head. Gather 5 feathers and place on the very top with the rounded ends meeting in the center, like a flower. Add a few more feathers if Styrofoam is still showing through.
Glue the gold beak on top of the center gray feather of the chest. For the eyes, layer the black circle onto the white circle. Then, glue the white circle onto the gray circle. Lastly, glue on the blue circle. Place the eyes on either side of the beak and glue in place.
